Today exactly 10 years ago, at 14:46pm, on the 11th March 2011, a huge earthquake hit Tohoku, northern Japan.
It was the largest ever earthquake to hit Japan. It lasted over 6 minutes. The earthquake, and the huge tsunami that followed it, destroyed many towns and cities.
Because of the disaster nearly 20,000 people lost their lives. Many more lost their homes. 10 years later, 250,000 people have still not been able to return to their hometowns.
It might sound like something that happened years before, but it is important for us to remember what happened on that day and learn from how people came together strong to help-out each-other.
Thank you.
